PATTERN NOTES
We recently began visiting the RSS (refugee support services) center local to us in Charlotte. There is a group of wonderful women who get together every Thursday for English lessons, knitting, community, and to take advantage of the many resources the facility has to offer. It is such an honor to step into a place filled with support, kindness, and diversity, and we’re so grateful that RSS exists for the refugee community in Charlotte.
Many of the women make hats on round knitting looms. Volunteers at the center help the women to distribute their handcrafted goods to earn extra income. As a way to give back, we designed this Fair Isle hat, a skill we will be teaching the women to spice up their loom knitting activities. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated back to RSS. (link to Refugee Support Services of Charlotte)
A bulky weight yarn is held double throughout this project. You could also hold together four strands of worsted weight yarn to get the same gauge and size.
